Rainbow over an Ancient Scots Pine

from £90.00

Description

Beinn Eighe NNR is deservedly famed for its ancient Caledonian pine forest. Some of the pines on the Glas Leitir (grey slope) are more than 350 years old. Set up in 1951, it covers a vast area of 48 square kilometres – stretching from loch-side to mountain top.

The section of the reserve between Kinclochewe and the subsidiary summit of Sgurr Ban was a location that had been pinned on my OS map for a number of years as an area I needed to visit. Within minutes of my first arrival I was kicking myself for not visiting sooner - the huge potential of the area was immediately evident and within a week I had made 3 further sunrise visits in very different conditions.

This particular visit was the most productive - the first snow of the season was capping the mountainside beyond and passing showers and dramatic cloud cover made for dynamic lighting conditions. The Rainbow falling over this ancient and shapely pine tree with Beinn Eighe in the background was the icing on the cake.
