New Year - New Beginnings

"The secret to getting ahead is getting started."

Mark Twain

I am terrible at getting started with anything that feels out of my comfort zone. I think it’s because I know that it takes a lot of practice and perseverance to become good at something, and I have serious issues with perfectionism. I don’t like feeling that I’m not presenting the best version of myself to the outside world.

I’ve made enough New Years resolutions over the years to know that taking small steps and just getting started is the best way of changing habits. Most of my resolutions have been based around running - Mileage targets for the year, completion of certain races or hitting certain distances. More often than not, I have accomplished these targets. To run 1000 miles in a year, you only need to start with the first mile. Everything from that point on is progress.

I haven’t made any target based resolutions for 2026, but I do want to put myself and my photography ‘out there’ more this year. I want to share more work, even when I know it isn’t worthy of my portfolio or a place on the gallery wall. That’s where I hope this blog will come in.

I won’t be posting to a timeline or specific structure. I don’t even expect to have an audience. But I will be posting here form time to time, with words and images that probably wouldn’t have been shared unless I’d started with this first blog post today.
